Norse Mythology Book Tag

Egyptian Book Tag (1)I’m trying to do my tags on the same day of the week – Tag Tuesday! Will it work? Who knows, I don’t get tagged for things super often but here goes…

I’m a total mythology nerd, so when I decided I wanted to make my own book tag I knew the perfect place to start. Even though Greek mythology has always been my favourite, it’s much more well-known than Norse and I figured that it had been done before. I hope you enjoy what I came up with and maybe learned something along the way!

The numbers three and nine (like the nine worlds) are very important in Norse mythology, so I decided to build my tag around that. I started with the three most well known Norse gods: Odin, Thor and Loki, then nine more gods and goddesses, and finally round it out with three non-godly aspects.

There were so many of these that I wanted to answer from the same pool of about three books, but I tried to be more diverse with my answers.

The Rules:

  • Link back to my original post on Kyera’s Library so I can see all your answers! (Be sure to do this via pingback, I don’t get notified if you just tag my URL)
  • Thank the person(s) who tagged you… show the community some love!
  • Obviously, come up with your wonderful answers!
  • Don’t forget to tag others to keep the tag going!

Simple-Line-Light-4

Odin – Favourite Stand Alone

Odin is the All-Father, the leader of the Norse Gods. He is the god of wisdom, poetry, battle, death, wine, and war, among other things.

Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

I absolutely fell in love with this book when I read it recently, so it was at the forefront of my mind when thinking about stand-alones. My review.

Thor – A Book That Hits You in the Feels

Thor is the god of thunder, weather, warriors, strength, and storms, so his might packs a punch. He is married to the beautiful Lady Sif.

Image result for a court of mist and fury

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Seriously, this whole series hits me with feels – but just the relationships and interactions between the Inner Circle, ugh I’m in love.

Loki – Biggest Book Plot Twist or Character Betrayal

Loki is the god of mischief, thieves and thrives on chaos.

Image result for shades of magic ve schwab

Shades of Magic Trilogy by V.E. Schwab

I don’t like spoilers, so I’m just going to say.. I never really knew what to expect from the plot or the characters and I loved it so much.

Frigg – OTP

Frigg is Odin’s wife, the goddess of love, marriage, fertility, and fate.

Image result for clary and jace fan art

Clary and Jace from the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

They are the first pairing that I ever fell in love with, my OTP, and nobody can beat Clace in my heart.

Heimdall – Favourite Second Book in a Series

Heimdall is the god of loyalty, faithfulness and he is who protects the bi-frost, the bridge that connects all nine worlds.

Image result for lord of shadows

Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare

This book was so good. Sometimes you worry about second books in a trilogy, because they act as a bridge between the introduction to the world and the thrilling conclusion, but I adored Lord of Shadows. I would have such a tough time deciding if I liked Lady Midnight or Lord of Shadows better.

Baldur – Favourite Male Character

Baldur is the beloved son of Odin and Frigg, twin brother of Hodor.

Image result for jace herondale fan art

Jace Herondale from the Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Oh Jace, my book boyfriend. What more do I need to say? He’s an incredible Shadowhunter, so sassy and part.. well that would be spoilers if you haven’t read the series yet. Please go read the series so we can gush about Jace.

Sif – Most Beautiful Book Cover

Lady Sif is known for her beautiful golden tresses, although she is also the goddess of the harvest and is married to Thor.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling

There are so many gorgeous book covers out there, but the black and gold aesthetic of this book along with the fabulous illustrations? I just had to pick it.

Frey – Book/Series That Makes You Happy

Frey is the Lord of weather, god of light, summer, master of agriculture, fertility, and brother of Freya.

Image result for the lunar chronicles

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

I just love this series, the characters and how it is such a unique retelling of fairytales. I have been looking forward to rereading it for months and it makes me happy every time I think about it even though I haven’t gotten a chance to reread it again.

Freya – Favourite Book Setting

Freya is the goddess of love and beauty, fertility, war, wealth and growth, and sister of Frey.

Image result for hogwarts fan art

Hogwarts from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Man, I fell in love with Hogwarts when I was bought a child. What kid who was reading Harry Potter didn’t dream about getting their letter and going off to the magical school to have adventures and learn magic? I would absolutely live there if I could, even with a Basilisk and werewolf on the loose.

Tyr – Favourite Book with a Big Upheaval/Epic Fight Scene

Tyr is the god of war

Related image

Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas

There are a lot of great scenes in this series, but I’m thinking of Empire of Storms. Specifically, the scene where Rowan’s family comes on the boats, the sea serpents are attacking and Manon’s Thirteen are riding their Wyverns.

Uller – Character Death That Affected You the Most

Uller is the god of death, winter, archery and hunting.

Image result for dumbledore fan art

Dumbledore from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling

I remember where I was when I read the scene in the Half-Blood Prince. I was at my grandma’s house (I used to spend 2-3 days there a week over the summer when my mom was at work), laying on the couch reading and sobbing. She probably thought the world was ending or something terrible had happened – but J.K. Rowling just tore my heart out of my chest. No big deal. I don’t think there will ever be a character death that hits me quite as hard.

Njord – Favourite Book an Epic Journey on Water/Ocean Setting

Njord is the god of the wind and the sea.

Image result for percy jackson and the heroes of olympus

Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

This group of heroes goes on an epic journey all of famous boat from mythology… I’m in love.

Valkyrie – Favourite Strong Female Character

The Valkyries, much like the Amazons, are strong female warriors.

Helene from an Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Can I just first say that there is nowhere near enough fanart out there of Helene? Please, my artistically inclined friends go remedy that situation. Helene is a queen and deserves more love.

Aesir/Vanir – Favourite Book “Crew”

The Aesir and the Vanir are the two groups of Norse gods, believed to be the old and new gods.

Image result for six of crows crew

Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

I debated for this category for so long because there are too many crews that I am absolutely in love with, so please don’t hate me if I didn’t pick your favorite because it was a super difficult decision. Even now I wish I could nominate two or three more to be in this category. But I am going to stick with my decision.

Seipyrts – Favourite Sidekick (Non-Human Character)

Seipyrts is Odin’s trusty eight legged steed, yes you heard that correctly – eight legs.  I promise that he is the god’s horse companion and not a giant spider that he rides around on… although that would probably strike more fear in the hearts of his enemies than a pretty horse does.

I tag the wonderful:

Mandy from Book Princess Reviews
Shanah from Bionic Book Worm
Zuky from the Book Bum
Rendz from Reading with Rendz
Tiana from the Book Raven
Krysti from YA and Wine

…And all of you!

Simple-Line-Light-4

That’s it for my book tag, I hope you guys enjoyed it and please feel free to do it even if I didn’t tag you. Don’t forget to link back to me so that I can see what amazing books you picked! Let me know what you think in the comments below!

Omigosh, I can’t wait to do this, Kyera!! It’s going to be SO hard not to steal your first few answers because they were brilliant. Also, Thor the movies has me so confused now, since I had no clue that Thor married Lady Sif. Now all the tension makes sense. This is a brilliant tag, Kyera, and I can’t wait to do it! 😀 Fabulous job! 🙂
