Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Sarah J Maas does an incredible job writing this novel (and all of the subsequent books in this series). The cast of characters is so varied, so there’s at least one that you can identify with whether it’s the multi-faceted personality of Celaena, the confident nature of Dorian, the reserved Chaol, the kind and caring Nehemia, or someone else. They grow and change authentically throughout the novel as they’re faced with trials, relationships, and the competition to become the King’s Champion.
The world-building is wonderfully done, allowing the reader to immerse themselves in this new place with unique lands and people. The map is the perfect addition, showing the layout of Erilea from Eyllwe to Adarlan, Melisande to Terrasen. The reader experiences the darkness and the light of the land through the eyes of the various characters.
Throne of Glass is a highly recommended read to all but will be especially enticing to fans of strong heroines, high fantasy, young adult and extremely well-written series. This series is one of my favourites, and each book only gets better than the last.
