A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5)
As a big fan of Star Wars: Rebels, I was excited to dive into A New Dawn to see where Kanan and Hera’s story began. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite land for me the way I hoped. The plot felt a bit slow and underwhelming, and while I love these characters in the show, I didn’t feel as connected to them here. Their chemistry wasn’t as strong as I expected, and I never fully clicked with the emotional beats of their arcs in this version of their origin.
I listened to the audiobook and was surprised to find the narration and sound design less engaging than usual — I typically love the immersive quality of Star Wars audiobooks, but this one didn’t work for me. Still, it’s not a bad book. It fills in some backstory, and it’s worth checking out for dedicated Rebels fans, but it didn’t have the excitement or emotional pull I was hoping for.
