Quicksilver by Callie Hart
Fae & Alchemy, #1
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Quicksilver is a dark, emotional fantasy romance set in a richly built world of fae magic and alchemical secrets — but it takes time to find its footing. The pacing at the beginning is slow, and it took me a while to warm up to the FMC, who doesn’t immediately draw you in. The MMC, on the other hand, is a walking red flag for most of the book, and just as you think the story might hold him accountable, the narrative shifts — and suddenly we’re supposed to root for him. That pivot felt jarring, especially after such a slow-burn setup.
That said, the comic relief character absolutely shines and injects much-needed levity into the darker moments. Their presence helped balance out the mood and kept me engaged even when the main romance felt uneven. The world is interesting, the writing is strong, and there’s a lot of emotional weight — but the ending felt rushed compared to the slow buildup that came before it. Still, if you enjoy morally gray characters, intense tension, and layered world-building, there’s something compelling here.
