Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
The Empyrean, #3
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Onyx Storm delivers an emotionally charged, high-stakes continuation of The Empyrean series. Despite being over 500 pages, I flew through it in just a few days – a testament to how compulsively readable it is. The world expands meaningfully in this installment, with new settings, shifting alliances, and higher personal stakes. Several side characters finally get moments to shine, and that added depth made the world feel more textured than in previous books. While the writing still leans commercial and fast-paced, that style works perfectly for this kind of immersive fantasy-drama.
It’s a story that knows how to balance action, romance, and emotional payoff. There are still moments that feel a little predictable, but the payoff is satisfying. If you’ve enjoyed Fourth Wing and Iron Flame, this is a worthy continuation that leans into everything fans love – dragons, danger, and complex character relationships. It raises the stakes and keeps the momentum going, all while making you more attached to the characters than ever.
