This was a tough one to get through. The writing isn’t great, and I never really connected to the characters, which made the reading experience feel slow – even though the book itself isn’t that long. The emotional stakes didn’t land, and the character choices often felt hollow or unearned. While there are some interesting ideas within the world, nothing truly stood out enough to make up for the lack of engagement or depth.
If you’re already invested in the Lightlark series, you might want to see it through to the end, but otherwise, this one didn’t leave much of an impact. It’s a book with potential that remains unrealized – a story that leans heavily on drama but lacks the character grounding or strong prose to make it hit. Better suited for fans of the series than for readers looking for a standout YA fantasy.
