The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, Part Three by Michael Dante DiMartino
My rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars, Part Three was the final book in this arc and it was so good. Turf Wars continues the story where the animated series ended and shows Korra continuing to balance her duties as the Avatar with people’s expectations of her, including her friends. It’s an incredibly hard struggle because all of those expectations are so disparate and sometimes are completely different than what she wants for herself.
The characters feel incredibly familiar and it was great getting to see them again. I especially loved the f/f relationship in it and how the characters reacted to it. It was just so accepted and healthy, which I appreciated so much and think that the representation is beautiful. Although it was hinted at around the end of the tv show, I loved that they got to explore it in this series.
The plot was engaging and I breezed through both parts two and three of this graphic novel in about an hour (maybe less.) I loved seeing the spirit world and it’s interaction on Korra’s world, the Air Nation growing as a people and culture, and the world changing for the better. I cannot wait to see where they take this series next in The Legend of Korra: Ruins of the Empire.
