Mid-Year Freak Out Tag (2019)

The lovely Shanah from Bionic Book Worm tagged me for this, so be sure to check out her Mid-Year Freak Out Tag! I’ve also done this tag in 2018 and in 2017, if you want to check them out!

1 – The Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2019:

Finale (Caraval, #3)
Strange the Dreamer (Strange the Dreamer, #1)
Bloodwitch (The Witchlands, #3)

This is so difficult – but Finale, Strange the Dreamer, and Bloodwitch are the tops for me so far!

2 – Your Favourite Sequel This Year:

Muse of Nightmares (Strange the Dreamer, #2)

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

Strange the Dreamer was up there for favourite book so far this year, so of course, Muse of Nightmares follows as my favourite sequel so far!

3 – A New Release That You Haven’t Read Yet But Really Want To:

Undying (Unearthed, #2)

Undying by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

I really enjoyed this sci-fi, Indiana Jones series when I first read Unearthed, so I immediately wanted to dive into Undying but it wasn’t out yet… it’s been months now and I need to get back into this world and find out what happens!

4 – Most Anticipated Release For the Second Half of the Year:

The Queen of Nothing (The Folk of the Air, #3)

Queen of Nothing by Holly Black

The last book ended on such a note that I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next, so many twists and turns!

5 – Your Biggest Disappointment:

Lady Stuff: Secrets to Being a Woman

Lady Stuff: Secrets to Being a Woman by Loryn Brantz

This just seems to be another in a line of graphically illustrated books about being an introvert, growing up, and just doesn’t capture the spark of its predecessors.

6 – Biggest Surprise of the Year:

Reflection (Twisted Tales, #4)

Reflection by Elizabeth Lim

After reading the other books in this series, I was wary but wanted to give Lim a chance since she didn’t write the others – and boy was I pleasantly surprised! The characters felt like the ones that we had grown to love in Mulan.

7 – Favourite New to You or Debut Author:

Elizabeth Lim

See previous question – I had never read her stuff before, but loved Reflection (and already pre-ordered Spin the Dawn).

8 – Your New Fictional Crush:

Dante from Finale

I may not have thought about it before, but I think I have a crush on Dante?

9 – New Favourite Character:

Lady Marian from Sherwood by Meagan Spooner

I love retellings and girl-power, so this book hit so many points for me!

10 – A Book That Made You Cry:

Hmm. None?

11 – A Book That Made You Happy:

There's Something About Sweetie

There’s Something About Sweetie by Sandhya Menon

This book is just cute and feel-good.

12 – Your Favourite Book to Movie Adaptation That You’ve Seen This Year:

I think the only one that I’ve seen is the Hate U Give? It was pretty faithful and enjoyable!

13 – Favourite Blog Post You’ve Published This Year:

Uhh…. I honestly have no idea. I enjoy my unboxing posts though. They’re just visually appealing.

14 – The Most Beautiful Book That You’ve Bought/Received This Year:

Hello. No words needed.

15 – What are Some of the Books That You Need to Read by the End of the Year?

So many books. I literally need to pick Queen of Air and Darkness back up. I don’t know what happened with that. Other than that, there are a few that haven’t been released yet that I need to read – and I’m on hold for Aurora Rising, Sorcery of Thorns and Broken Throne, so they’re all must reads by the end of the year haha.

And I tag anyone who hasn’t done this tag yet this year and totally needs to freak out about what they have (or haven’t) accomplished yet! I hope you enjoyed!
