City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Mini Review:
I had never listened to this series via audiobook before, so I thought it might be interesting to re-read the final book in the series in that format. I personally did not enjoy the narrators. The male narrator, Jason Dohring, did not have much inflection or emotion in his performance, which made some scenes of the book incredibly droll when they shouldn’t have been. He also gave people accents that shouldn’t have had them, for example, Jace, Alec, and Izzy. The second two have grown up in New York City and Jace joined them when he was ten, yet they had this strange and poor attempt at an English accent. The female narrator, Sophie Turner, was a little more enjoyable to listen to but I feel like that was more in comparison to her counterpart than the fact that I actually liked her performance. It was so disappointing because I love the series and other narrator’s have done a lovely job bringing this book to life. There was no reason to change the narrators and unfortunately it did this particular book a disservice.
For the audiobook performance alone, I would probably rate the narrators as a 1 or 2 star, whereas I feel the book is 5 stars. As a result, I have no idea what graphic to use. I feel like either would be misleading.
