These are not in order because that’s just not possible. As some are part of a series, I suggest reading earlier books’ reviews and avoiding spoilers.
There were also some authors that I wanted to put on this list twice, but I tried to be fair and not include them more than once… so maybe this isn’t actually entirely accurate? It was tough enough to make a list that I’m definitely not sure if it’s actually right.
Top 10:
-
A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J Maas
-
Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare
-
Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan
-
Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
-
Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab
-
Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
-
The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee
-
Windwitch by Susan Dennard
-
Renegades by Marissa Meyer
-
Warcross by Marie Lu
I reread a few series this year that still deserve a mention, as well as some books or authors that were completely new to me.
Honourable Mentions:
(only because they were not published in 2017)
-
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
-
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
-
Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab
-
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
-
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
-
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
-
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare

Ahh that’s so hard! My favorite 2017 release was Letters to the Lost, and my favorite series that I read was the Throne of Glass series. But there were so many other good books in there too!

Throne of Glass is really fun, but I haven’t gotten a chance to read Tower of Dawn yet! I had really hoped to get to it before the year ended.

I haven’t gotten to Tower of Dawn yet either! I’m actually rereading the series now (Im onEmpire of Storms) so it’s fresh in my mind when I read Tower of Dawn!

I did the same thing, but I have so many things out from the library that I had to get to them first.

I loved ADSOM and I cannot wait to read AGOS! And I really want to read Eliza and Her Monsters–it looks so good!

It really was! I finished reading a book right before I went to bed and said, it’s too early I’ll just read a chapter or two of a new book… a few hours later I’d finished Eliza. It just hooked me!

I enjoyed ACOWAR a lot but also felt slightly dissatisfied because there was not enough Nesta moments, in my opinion. But omg yes! Ship of the Dead was great!
Other than that, I haven’t read a lot of 2017 books and if I did, they’re probably indie novels as those are what I read a lot this year 😊
Other books I enjoyed are The Final Empire and The Hidden Dawn 😁

Oh yeah, Nesta was wonderful. I hope we see more from her in the future.

I didn’t get to read many of those books on that list because they are in series that I haven’t started yet, but I did love ACOWAR.

I’m REALLY hoping to save up enough Google Play credits here pretty soon to read Ship of the Dead! Can’t wait to find out what happens.

That’s exciting! I usually borrow from my library so I don’t have to wait.

I ALWAYS have to wait when I borrow from my library, lol. New Rick Riordan books often have a several month wait list. Honestly though, I haven’t checked to see how long it is though, I’m just going off past experiences.

The trick with that is to request the book before it comes out. (Usually within a month of the release date.) Some libraries will have it in the system as on order, but you can put it on hold. Then you’ll end up being one of the first people to get the book.

I’ve tried that a couple of times, but I’m not sure my library puts them in the system ahead of time, because I’ve never been able to find the books. But, again, I didn’t try it this time around with this wildly popular book. They may only do it for super popular titles. *shrugs* My library is weird.

Oh hmm, that is odd. All of the libraries in my state are part of one system, so you can get a book from any of them.

Yes! We DO have that! It’s also quite possibly user error.

Oooooh, this was a great list, Kyera!! I super agree about Gemina, and Warcross and Eliza. You fully convinced me to hurry up and read Eliza, so so much thanks for that. I’m eager to see another Magnus Chase book up there since I’ve been debating about going for that series next. And I really need to get on the Dennard series. Wonderful list, Kyera, and I can’t wait to see what 2018 holds for you!! ❤

Oh Magnus is good, it might take a little bit to get into because you want it to be Percy – but it’s worth it!

okay, good to know. 😀 which was your favorite of his series besides Percy? You must be my Riordan guide now that I”m eagerly diving into him again. :O I feel like I’ve missed everything with him.

I liked Magnus more than Kane, because the characters were better.

This really is a shock! There were quite a few that I really enjoyed (1,4,6,9,10) and the rest I haven’t read yet. I can’t believe that I didn’t mention Gemina… what is happening to me?! lol The Gentlemans Guide is on my TBR and I haven’t gotten to the darker shades series or the truthwitch series yet… maybe they will make my list next year! Great post!

I was baffled! I hope you enjoy those three though when you do get to read them.
