Crave by Tracey Wolff
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5)
Crave is basically a modern attempt at recapturing the Twilight vibe — think boarding school instead of Forks, Alaska instead of Washington, but the same general energy: an overprotective paranormal love interest, a heroine who constantly gets hurt, and the looming shadow of a love triangle that’s more aesthetic than actual. The story is dramatic and trope-heavy, and if that’s what you’re in the mood for, it delivers.
That said, it didn’t entirely work for me. The writing felt uneven — lots of repeated phrases like “intimidating af” and “sexy af,” plus dialogue that sounded more like a middle-aged attempt at “cool teen” slang than anything an actual teen would say. Still, I’m also fully aware I’m not the target audience. I read this because someone I know loved the series and wanted me to try it. As a not-teen, it was more of a meh experience, though parts were entertaining. If you’re a younger reader looking for nonsense fantasy romance with heavy Twilight vibes, this might hit the spot.
