Exit Strategy by Martha Wells
The Murderbot Diaries, #4
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Exit Strategy brings Murderbot’s first arc full circle, reuniting it with characters from All Systems Red and tying up lingering plot threads with a satisfying — and emotionally messy — bang. The story is tighter and more personal than in the last couple installments, with higher emotional stakes and more direct conflict. Seeing Murderbot struggle with trust, loyalty, and something dangerously close to affection gives this novella a punchier emotional edge. The social anxiety is still top-tier, and its attempts to process feelings through sarcasm and crisis management remain deeply entertaining.
What makes this installment hit harder is how much more self-aware Murderbot has become. It still wants to avoid every conversation, still binge-watches media as coping, and still insists it doesn’t care — but the lie is thinner now, and that vulnerability shines through. It’s action-packed and character-driven in all the right ways, with just enough awkward emotional growth to make you both laugh and wince.
