Artificial Condition

Artificial Condition by Martha Wells
The Murderbot Diaries, #2
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Artificial Condition takes everything that made All Systems Red great and adds an unforgettable twist: ART, a research transport AI with zero chill and lots of opinions. The dynamic between ART and Murderbot is one of the best parts of the book — they bicker, bond, and exchange sarcastic data like two bots who would absolutely never call it “friendship” (but it is). The banter is perfection, and their interactions bring out a different side of Murderbot that adds emotional depth without losing the series’ signature dry humor.

This installment slows the external plot just a little to make space for Murderbot’s internal growth — and it’s worth it. We see Murderbot beginning to confront its past while trying to define what autonomy actually looks like. It’s still awkward, still binge-watching media, and somehow more relatable than ever. A quieter but richer sequel, with more snark, more heart, and a maybe-friendship I adored.
