Be Everything at Once: Tales of a Cartoonist Lady Person by Dami Lee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Be Everything at Once is a graphic novel that collects a number of Dami Lee’s webcomics from “As Per Usual” and turns them into a humorous and relatable memoir. Dami Lee has moved between the United States and South Korea enough to always struggle with her identity no matter which country she is in. She talks about life, relationships, fandom, and self-care in a way that will appeal to most people in their late teens or twenties, but may not resonate with older readers or people that think Pokemon is juvenile (for example). Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the art style, it is a popular style recently and Lee’s book is not the first webcomic turned pseudo-memoir to come out and look similar to this – so it is definitely popular and people like it. The art wasn’t so off-putting that I didn’t like the book and that’s important to me. Overall, this was a cute, relatable, and easy graphic novel “memoir” from cartoonist Dami Lee.
