Bookish Habits – Top 5 Tuesday

I don’t really know that I have habits when I’m reading, but I’ll do my best to answer this prompt in my own way!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme that the lovely Bionic Bookworm does. If you are interested in doing any of her topics on your blog she welcomes it! Don’t forget to check out her upcoming topics if you’re interested in participating in future Top 5’s! Be sure to check out her topics here!

Bookish Habits:

Goodreads

I always add books that I want to read to my TBR, track when I’m reading them, then add my ratings on Goodreads.

Writing Reviews

I didn’t use to do it, but for the last two years or so I’ve tried to review every single book that I read. I feel like it helps me to appreciate them more or be more critical about them, than I used to be.

Bookstagram Photos

This is a habit that I want to get into – taking photos of books that I read. I’d love to be able to take more photos and post them on Instagram, with a little preview of my review of the book. I enjoy doing it, but I just don’t have the time to do it often right now.

Audiobooks

I don’t know if this is considered a habit, but I always mess with the speed of my audiobooks (and Libby is fantastic for that, if you check out e-audiobooks from your library). I’ve found that people’s speed and cadence vary widely depending upon the narrator and that more narrators tend to speak significantly more slowly when narrating than they might if they were calmly speaking in real life. As a result, I had to play around with my audio speed until I find something that feels a little more natural to me before I can listen.

Becoming One With The Book

I don’t know if this counts as a habit either, but if I’m somewhere and I’m really into the book I’m reading I will 100% tune out the real world. I used to do that at school all the time. I’d just be sitting in the cafeteria with my friends and they’d be talking to me (like using my name and everything, which would normally make you pay attention) and I would hear nothing. I’m not purposefully ignoring you, I’m just so engrossed that I literally don’t hear you.

What are your bookish habits? Let me know your list in the comments!

I mess with the audiobook speed too. Some of them are just way to slow, and it doesn’t sound natural.

Becoming one with the book – I get that! I’ll be reading and my kids will be talking to me and I won’t hear a single word. They get so mad! My son talks to himself (or basically talks out loud just so he can hear his own voice lol) so I just tune him out completely lol

I don’t get so involved as to become one with the book very often. But when I do, I have no concept of time or anything going on around me. I love when that happens.

I also fool about with the audio speed! Sometimes it’s just too slow!!!

I adjust audio speeds too; funnily enough I haven’t had to slow a narrator yet.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your week. Here’s my Top 5 Tuesday Post
