9 From the Nine Worlds (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard)

9 From the Nine Worlds by Rick Riordan

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I like novellas because they bring something new to the world, whether that is character development, an interesting plotline that adds to the story but just didn’t make sense in the original narrative, or diving deeper into the world. For whatever reason, the novellas that Rick Riordan writes just don’t seem to hit any of the right notes for me. I adore the books and would typically like to see more from the characters, but there just didn’t feel like there was a point to any of the stories. I didn’t get to know the characters more, the world didn’t grow for me, and the plotlines weren’t engaging. I will continue to read each one and hope that one day I actually enjoy them and feel like they contributed to the worlds that RR built and I love.

Heard about this because Rick Riordan’s one of my favorite authors. Haven’t read it yet though. I’m so sorry you didn’t like it so much. But I appreciate your honesty here 🙂

He’s also one of my favourite authors, so of course, I pick up everything that he’s written! But this was just unnecessary filler for me. It was kind of sad.

Ignoring the two books I have to read this week for class, I’m listening to ‘Two Can Keep A Secret’ by Karen M McManus this week!

I was definitely on the fence about this one, and I think I’m just going to skip it after reading your review. His novellas are always just okay for me as well, and I was ready for all the excitement for this one. Great review, Kyera! 🙂

I mean it’s short if you’re super bored, but definitely skip worthy. I haven’t been impressed by any of the novellas so far.

Agreed. I liked his Greek Gods, Greek Heroes, which I think he excelled with it, but the novellas were just so flat.
