New Year’s Book Tag

I just wanted to do a New Year’s tag, so I googled this one but I don’t know who originally created it. Please let me know if you know who created it so that I can credit them.

Best Book/Series That You’ve Read in 2018

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

Authors That You’ve Recently Found And Would Like To Read More Of In The New Year

Tahereh Mafi – although I read her contemporary novel so it’s a little different, I do hope to dive into her other books because I really enjoyed A Larger Expanse of Sea.

Most Anticipated Book Turned Movie?

I loved To All The Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han in both book and movie form, so I cannot wait for the sequel now that it has been announced by Netflix!

Name a Character That You Wouldn’t Mind Sharing A Kiss With At Midnight (If There Is One)

Jace Herondale. (It’s fine, I’m trying to convince my boyfriend to cosplay as Jace for Comic Con and that kiss will actually happen at midnight on New Year’s, so it’s basically the same thing. Right?)

What’s On Your TBR For 2019? (Top 5 Will Suffice If Its An Extremely Long List!)

Will You Participate In The Goodreads Reading Challenge (Or Any Others)?

I participate every year, so I definitely will continue again this year!

Any New Years Resolutions?

  • Bookish – Attend another book con, preferably one that I’ve never been to before?
  • Personal – I don’t know if I ever make personal resolutions.

I tag everyone that wants to do this book tag!

Attending a bookcon is also on my resolution/goals list! Which ones have you been to?

I’ve been to the Boston Teen Author Festival the last two years, which is nice but really hit or miss depending upon the authors. The first time I went was amazing and sooo many I couldn’t figure out who to go see, but this year there were only a few that I really liked, but none I loved. I also went to Book Con in June, which was crazy overwhelming.

Can you see the Boston Teen line up in advance? I’m assuming yes… That sounds like a good thing to check up on in the months leading up. I’m thinking about Book Con myself, since it’s the closest to me, but for a first con it would definitely be … an adventure haha. How was your experience?

As an introvert, it’s overwhelming. You basically have to choose between sitting in one room all day so you know you get to see the panel you want, or standing in lines all day in the hopes that you get 2-3 things from publishers or bookish companies. I managed to get into a couple of lines, but man they were overwhelming in general. You could spend 1-2 hours and still end up being cut off from the actual giveaway. I just ended up wandering around a lot and just jumped into random short lines (my Sunday) whereas I spent the day in one panel room on Saturday. I know Cassandra Clare would be popular, so that’s where I went first thing in the morning and watched two panels before her. People don’t have to leave between panels, so eventually no one was allowed in the room if they tried to get in by the second or third panel. It’s a fun experience, but expensive and hard to plan for.

Wow, alright, this feels like it will really be a lot to handle. I’m overwhelmed just reading your description. I want to be able to actually engage with a few different authors/pubs, especially if I’m paying so much to go. Probably… not smart to make this my first panel. But also it’s the easiest to get to ahhh. Would you go again?

I’m considering it, but I definitely want to try to attend another one and see if they’re just all like that.. or BookCon is just insane because it’s NYC and huge.

NYC could definitely be a factor. Is there a list somewhere of all YA bookcons/fests that you know of?

Oh gosh I have no idea, I made myself one when I was in the Peace Corps so that I could dream about where I might attend but I never found another person’s list of cons.

I only hear about cons when people are in the middle of attending and tweeting about how awesome it is (which is a bit too late to attend, lol)

Ah yes. That’s not quite feasible at that point unless you can teleport.

If only teleportation was an option 😦

Have you read Mafi’s other series? I feel like I can’t remember if you said. Omigosh, that cosplay would be amazing. Did you end up doing it or was it a future thing? COME ON, ALEX. I WANNA SEE JACE COSPLAY. Wonderful post as always, Kyera! 🙂

I haven’t, it’s always been on my radar but it’s just one I haven’t dived into yet. Yeah, come on Alex. I also want to see Jace cosplay!! Haha. I think I’ve convinced him, so I hope to have a whole shadowhunter crew at comic con.
