Cast Long Shadows – Cassandra Clare

Cast Long Shadows (Ghosts of the Shadow Market, #2)Cast Long Shadows by Cassandra Clare

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Too many children. Who do you belong to? I’m so confused! That is honestly my biggest qualm about this series of novellas. I don’t feel that I know any of the characters well enough yet to know their unique personalities and tell them apart. Right now, I always have to stop and think which child belongs to which parents – and it draws me out of the story. This story casts the shining Matthew Fairchild in a new light, which explains the dark spot on his soul that may slowly consume him – but yet, I didn’t feel the emotional weight of the story. Yes, it’s terrible. But for some reason, I just didn’t have the emotional connection to it and I suspect that’s because of my biggest issue with these novellas – I just don’t know the characters well enough yet to have a stake in their daily lives and wellbeing.
