The Young Queens – Kendare Blake (Novella Mini Review)

The Young Queens (Three Dark Crowns, #0.5)The Young Queens by Kendare Blake

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

The Young Queens is a prequel novella in the Three Dark Crowns series. It takes readers back in time all the way to the birth of the three main characters and then progresses until just before the time of the first book. It was nice to get to see each girl’s life before we meet them in the first book. I was especially interested to get to know more about their births, which you may also be curious about if you read the series but I can’t say more because it could be a spoiler if you haven’t. Although it was short I think it gave a lot of good information and background. I felt that Katherine and Mirabella were developed a little bit more. Seeing their trials and tribulations made them more real, whereas I felt Arsinoe was a little removed.
