PREMISE OF DESERT ISLAND DISCS…
You are cast away onto a remote island:
- You can bring 5 albums, what are they?
- You can bring ONE book (not including The Bible (or other appropriate religious texts) or The Complete Works of Shakespeare, as they are already provided and NO SERIES), what ONE book is it?
- You can have one luxury item (it has to be inanimate and can’t help you escape the island), what is it?
Kyera’s (this totally isn’t my Peace Corps experience) Island Adventure!
5 Albums!
Riot! by Paramore
I actually discovered this CD when I was organizing all of the books and media at my local library for their book sale. I probably fell in love with the cover, because it was so cool and bought it. (How can you pass up a CD for $1?) That started my love and obsession with Paramore. I later realized that I had bought Pressure off iTunes a few years before, but didn’t even realize I knew Paramore. Suffice it to say, they’re one of my favourite bands.
Favourite Song: Misery Business
Aladdin Soundtrack by Alan Menken
Aladdin is, and has always been, my favourite Disney movie – so of course I had to pick this soundtrack. I listen to Disney music all the time. It’s so fun to sing along to, you never get bored of it, and you could totally imagine the movie while listening. (I remember having two Disney compilation CDs, but they spanned Disney’s history and only included one song per movie. If there was a big Disney CD that had 2-3 songs from each of the Renaissance movies and maybe a couple of other popular songs, I would definitely bring that instead!)
Favourite Song: Whole New World
1 by the Beatles
My mom bought me this for Christmas one year (along with the Beach Boys and the Monkeys) and I used to listen to it all the time. The Beatles are classic, so there’s no way you can get tired of these songs. As a kid, my favourites were always early Beatles like A Hard Day’s Night, Eight Days a Week, Love Me Do, etc.
Favourite Song: That’s impossible to pick.
Hamilton Soundtrack by Various Artists
I wanted variety, so this album is great because it has a mix of musical, rap, hip-hop, singing and storytelling on it. Plus, it’s super long so I feel like it’s a better choice than a musical that I can listen to five songs from. It can be inspirational or pump you up when you’re feeling down.
Favourite Song: Wait for It or Satisfied
Beauty and the Beast (Live Action Soundtrack)
The Little Mermaid (Broadway Soundtrack)
I’m sorry I couldn’t pick between these two! I’d end up rolling a dice and just bringing whichever one it lands on. I absolutely fell in love with Evermore when I heard it, so I’ve recently been obsessed with the Beauty and the Beast album. I needed more Disney on my list, but I wanted something different than the classic music (I almost picked Aladdin’s Broadway soundtrack, but I felt like that would be repetitive.)
The Little Mermaid is wonderful and has so many additional
songs on it that the movie doesn’t include. I fell in love with the musical from the soundtrack, and even though I was never able to see it I feel like I have because I can imagine the whole thing while listening to the music. Plus I bet it would be so much fun to be in that production! Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid?
Favourite Song; Evermore (BatB) – Part of Your World (TLM)
If there was a Best of Classic Rock Compilation album out there (which I’m sure there is, I just don’t know it) that would be my fifth pick. I’d like some Boston, Journey, Kansas, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, etc – or if they ever made a Linkin Park hits album. That would be great.
ONE BOOK (to rule them all? Sorry, I had to.)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter is my favourite series of all time, so of course I had to choose one of J.K.’s books. I was tempted to pick one of the longer ones, but Prisoner (and Sorcerer’s) just have such a warm place in my heart. I’ve read each of them over 40 times. Yes, I know I’m a wee bit crazy.
I would also like to know why the Bible and the Complete Works of William Shakespeare are hanging out on this island and how they have not been irreparably damaged by the elements.
ONE LUXURY ITEM
Perhaps an Eno hammock? They have one with mosquito netting and a tarp that hangs over you. That will let me hang out and read without being tortured by horrendous, itchy bites; being rained on (despite the fact that it’s a desert island… rather than a deserted island, I’m going to assume that’s a grammatical error and it will rain there otherwise I’ll die from dehydration); and have somewhere to sleep.
If this weren’t a cheat, I’d totally bring a kindle and solar charger (I already own one) – because then I would have hundreds of books to read. Alas, I was told I could only select one. Oh well!
My mom suggested that I train a parrot to sing, if I could also have it trained as a narrator for my favourite books (personal bird audiobook) then that would be amazing. Can someone get on that bird training situation for me?
I TAG:
Plus, anyone else who would like to do this tag.
Personally, I think I’d fare pretty well on an island. I pretty much live on fruits and vegetables, so as long as I’ve got a decent supply I’d be happy. Let me know what you think of my picks and how would you do on a desert(ed) island?
