Books That Didn’t Live Up To The Hype – Top 5 Tuesday

There are so many hyped books out there. Some live up to their hype and others? Not even close. Here are my top six… because you know I cannot ever seem to stick to a top five.

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme that the lovely Bionic Bookworm does. If you are interested in doing any of her topics on your blog she welcomes it! Don’t forget to check out her upcoming topics if you’re interested in participating in future Top 5’s! Be sure to check out her topics here!

Books That Didn’t Live Up To The Hype:

Red Rising (Red Rising, #1)

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I mean I liked them… but I don’t get the obsession and hype over them?

The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1)

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

By the third book in the series, I wasn’t impressed and yet it was still super hyped.

Divergent (Divergent, #1)

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Same with this one, I liked the first book but was just over it by the third.

Twilight (Twilight, #1)

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer

Yes, as a naive young reader I enjoyed these but I never thought that they were the most amazing creation ever – and yet, phenominal hype over them.

Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1)

Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

I feel like these were super hyped because I’m not sure why I picked them up and it wasn’t great.

Marked (House of Night, #1)

House of Night by P.C. Cast

I liked these at first when I was young and naive, but man. As time when on I was just not impressed and yet they were SUPER hyped.

OMG The House of Night series was hyped for SO long! I don’t think I minded the first one but the ones after were so annoying lol!

Yeah, I think I actually loved the premise and got drawn in.. but realistically, they probably weren’t that good.

Oh my stars YES to Divergent!! I literally only enjoyed the first one, and that one wasn’t even a 5 star read! Great list😄❤️

I did like the Hunger Games, but Twilight is on my list! I didn’t care for that one, but do think it’s possible to enjoy something and still admit that it’s over-hyped. Twilight is pretty much poster-book for this.

Bwahahhaha Red Rising aside (not read yet) I loved all the others!!!! But don’t worry I am not the “always happy” reader as this week I have much more than 5!

Oh, I definitely enjoyed them at the time, I just think if I read them again I probably wouldn’t? To be honest.

I’m with you on Twilight and Marked!! I read both as soon as the hype started up and was like O: wow these are just so gooood. But by bok four of Twilight I was like “okay seriously?” And I quite the HON series after book … five? I think. Now I’m more cautious with hyped books. I usually wait longer before testing them out so I don’t let public opinions sway me.

Yeah, hype makes it tough. I usually will only grab a hyped book early if it’s also an author I already love.

Same here. When it’s an author I love, any patience goes out the window.

Definitely with you on The Hunger Games and Twilight. I only read the first book of the Hunger Games and while I did read all of the Twilight books, I HATED Breaking Dawn. SO much, lol.

Yessssssssssssssssssssssssss to all of these (except Red Rising since I haven’t read but have no desire to). I definitely didn’t hop on the hype chain for these. Some were just okay, some were terrible. Great picks, Kyera! 🙂
