The Mid-Year Freak Out Tag (2018)

I’ve read 76 books so far this year, so this was tough to answer. I also feel like June was a really good reading month with a lot of new favourites.

The Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2018

A Reaper at the Gates (An Ember in the Ashes #3)

A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir

Hands down. No questions. Best new book.

Your Favorite Sequel of the Year

Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

It was a re-read but I looooove this book so much.

A New Release That You Haven’t Read But Really Want To

Furyborn (Empirium, #1)

Furyborn by Claire LeGrand

Two strong female MCs (I hope) with magic? I’m so, so on board for this!

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year

Queen of Air and Darkness: Exclusive Waterstones Hardback (Hardback)

Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

I mean it’s the thrilling conclusion to the series, ughhh!!!

Your Biggest Disappointment

A Whole New World (A Twisted Tale #1)

A Whole New World by Liz Braswell

I am crying right now, in my heart, about this book.

Biggest Surprise of the Year

36329818

Legendary by Stephanie Garber

-or-

Dread Nation (Dread Nation, #1)

 Dread Nation by Justina Ireland

I liked Caraval, but not Tella – so a book with her as the MC? A book about zombies in the Civil War era when I looked at the cover and thought it was going to be about pirates before I read the synopsis? I was trepidatious about these two, to say the least.

Favorite New-to-You or Debut Author

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi

-or-

Sky in the Deep

Sky in the Deep by Adrienne Young

I was so intrigued by both of these debut authors!

Your New Fictional Crush

Can I talk about my reignited crush on Elias? Because yes, please. It had just been so long since I was in the world that it wasn’t at the forefront of my mind – but it is now.

New Favorite Character

Rowan from Scythe by Neil Shusterman

Ugh. I am terrible. I couldn’t pick someone so I just stared at my Goodreads challenge until I said.. hmm I haven’t picked Scythe for something yet.. let’s go with Rowan.

A Book That Made You Cry

I.. don’t… cry? (Ignore my hyperbolizing in the disappointment question.)

A Book That Made You Happy

Leah on the Offbeat (Creekwood, #2)

Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli

-or-

From Twinkle, with Love

From Twinkle, With Love by Sandhya Menon

These were both so cute and feel-good. I loved them.

Your Favorite Book-To-Movie Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year

Favorite Book Post You’ve Done This Year

My Bookish Mash Tag was pretty fun to do. I loved seeing people’s stories when they continued to do the tag themselves.

The Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought/Received This Year

I cannot choose an actual favourite, but since I just received this book – it’s my pick.

What Are Some Books You Need to Read By the End of the Year

Reflection by Elizabeth Lim

This is the one that I need to read by the end of the year. No excuses!

It was so promising, but I personally just didn’t feel like it delivered.

Great answers! I need to read An Ember In The Ashes 😅 I personally enjoyed Legendary better than Caraval, which is a real shock because I usually don’t like sequels better 😬

Yeah, the second book slump is a real thing but Legendary was fantastic.

…maybe a buddy read for Reflection??

Besides that, this was great, Kyera! I loved reading your answers for it. Adrienne Young definitely made her name in Sky in the Deep. And I need to do a reread of Gemina soon since you just reminded me of how great it is again. And I still can’t wait for you to read Furyborn!! Wonderful tag, Kyera!! ❤

Oh yes, I’ve been so excited by her 20th anniversary and the fact that there’s actually Mulan merch. (I may or may not have gotten at least 75% of it.)

Sadly my library doesn’t have the audiobook. But I may get it from audible, either way I already own the physical book so maybe next week? I need to finish War Storm this coming week.

I wanted the sweatshirt but didn’t take the plunge. The pin sold out the day of so I missed it. Got the bag, wallet/wristlet, necklace, mug, journal and green shirt. Oh and then later the Danielle Nicole stuff came out so I got the backpack and makeup bag. It’s soooo much and expensive, but my mom convinced me because Mulan is my fave character and we need see stuff for her that I should get what I want or I’d be sad because I missed it. HT also has some cute stuff.

Oooooooooooooooh YES. I’ve been debating about what I want, but they were all SO gorgeous. That backpack and makeup bag are sooooooo cute. And I hadn’t checked HT. I might need to do that now. D:

Prepare yourself for sending a lot of money. Some of it I am just putting away in my closet still so that when Mulan isn’t around I have new stuff. So I am using my backpack and two pieces of jewelry that I got from hot topic which I wore yesterday. (Mulan’s hair comb and a Mushu bracelet.)
